The monitors of the Mexi Mexê national physical activity program are concerned about the non-participation of Brave residents in some physical activities carried out on the island.

These statements were made to Inforpress by monitors Eurico Barros and Mauria Barbosa, at the end of an activity called Rua Activa, held in the town of Furna, in which participation “fell far short” of what was desired, with the majority of children participating.

According to Eurico Barros, in addition to sports activities such as handball, volleyball, futsal and swimming, among others, a cancer screening had been scheduled, but because it coincided with the one carried out by the Cape Verdean Association of Fight Against Cancer and by the Health Department , the health part was left for another opportunity.

The same source explained that Rua Activa is precisely to make people realize and understand that it is necessary to do and practice physical activities, in order to improve health, regardless of age.

What he regretted was the poor participation of adults, adding that in this area in particular the group had not yet found a way to encourage people to participate in activities.

He also added that they had programmed a series of activities with the elderly, as a way of showing them that even indoors, with a simple sweeping or combing, it is a way of practicing physical exercises.

Regarding the children, he pointed out that they have been partners with the group in any corner of the island, perhaps due to their curiosity, which leads them to always participate.

He also explained that a door-to-door awareness campaign was carried out, in which the population was informed of the activities that would be carried out, they committed to participating, but in the end no one showed up, “not even out of curiosity”.

As a way of "trying" to change the routine, "mainly" of the elderly, Eurico Barros said that they will work in partnership with the Red Cross and other institutions, in order to create conditions and forms of incentive.
